Woodworm is the creative practice of founder Axel Radikas, a queer Lithuanian American artist based in Providence, Rhode Island. Rooted in Baltic heritage and traditional craft, the work draws from the folk art techniques that shaped Axel’s childhood memories while reimagining them through a contemporary lens that blend modern Baltic and American culture. Wood burning, block printing, embroidery, sourcing, and curating are used as ways of preserving cultural traditions, inviting historic craftsmanship into everyday life with intention and a modern perspective.

Every piece of art in Woodworm is handcrafted in either one-off originals or small batches in a home studio split with Axel's fiancée, Lily, infusing that love of craft and making in every piece. Wood-burned works begin on natural or reclaimed wood using a traditional pen-style burner before being finished with layers of colored pencil, ink or paint and sealed with a protective gloss. Linoleum prints are carved, inked, and pressed entirely by hand, while textile pieces are sewn from up-cycled fabrics, reclaimed materials, and and ethically sourced goods. Secondhand and vintage garments are picked and curated with care, always ensuring they’re made of high quality materials and made in the USA as much as possible. Sustainability is woven into every stage of the process, with an emphasis on craftsmanship, waste reduction, and giving overlooked materials a second life.
